Stagepod: THE AIRSTREAM STAGE 2010

IMG0288Slopeside Stagepod - The British Snowboarding Championships

Stagepod made its 2010 debut at the British Ski and Snowboard Championships in breathtaking Laax in the Swiss Alps, providing the setting for the daily slopeside Apres Sessions and later doubling as the winners' podium.

Each day, the 'Pod played host to a stellar line up of DJs and acoustic artists, and provided the perfect focal point for the crowds coming down the mountain at the end of the day for a welcome apres beer.

Brits organiser Spencer Claridge was certainly impressed. “Stagepod looked great on the snow and our sponsors were really impressed with the set-up. Even better, we were able to close up the trailer each day, housing all our sound equipment on site, which was a real logistical time saver".

Stagepod's Adam Morton and Brits music promoter John Bassett also set the 'fastest set up time' record while in Laax - just 10 minutes and 17 seconds from pulling the first hydraulic lever to playing the first MP3!

Bonkers - V-Festival Louder Lounge

Since Laax, Stagepod has spent the summer being the centre of attention at parties, gigs and promotions across the UK. The Virgin Media Louder Lounge VIP party at V-Festival was a definite highlight, with Dizzee Rascal, Drew Barrymore, Keith Lemon and even Richard Branson coming along to enjoy a cocktail or two and admire Stagepod's sleek curves.

“Stagepod was a fantastic new feature for the Louder Lounge,” reckoned Virgin Media’s head of PR Simon Dornan. “That undeniable Airstream cool factor really helped draw people over to the DJs."

Of course, Stagepod is not just a celebrity hangout or laid-back apres-ski location. No sir. This versatile beast is also a cutting edge gig venue, equally at home hosting string quartets or hard rocking heavy metal bands.

That was the recent scene at the Red Bull Pro Nationals in Whitby and Pontrillas, at any rate. At the end of a day of fierce racing and death defying action from the X-Fighters freestyle team, metal heroes Feral Sun entertained stoked motocross fans as the event drew to a close. Stagepod's next port of call during an increasingly busy summer was at an event put on by John Simms, aka Teflon. John is the graphic artist behind the iconic 2 Tone brand, and he brought together some of the UK's finest ska bands for a weekend celebration of the genre.

Event organiser Andy Shorten booked Stagepod as the main stage. “The Airstream stage added some retro style that fitted right along with our scooter ride out."

Veteran, King Hammond (Bad Manners & The Selector) and new wave Ska fusionists Meow Meows played to a packed out harbourside, and Skabour looks certain to return next year.

ecorally2Eco-Machine - The Rally On The Mall

Soon after, we donned a pair of organic wellies in readiness for a staring at Prince Charles's month-long sustainability festival, 'Garden Party to make a difference,' at Clarence House.

The Rally on The Mall featured an array of environmental motoring solutions. Star attractions were the Citroen survolt and the Tesla Roadster, boasting 0-60 in just 3.7 seconds. Racing legend Sir Stirling Moss took to the Stagepod to present awards for innovation and for the best eco vehicles.

The event was curated by Mulberry founder and organic farmer Roger Saul, with help from Grand Design's Kevin McCloud, and Stagepod's mix of classic Airstream design and new-school functionality fitted right in.

BOARDMASTERS FESTIVAL - Room with a View!

Our favourite pitch of the year. Stagepod was right at home at Newquay’s Boardmasters Festival in August. Billed as The View Stage, Stagepod occupied the prime vantage point on the headland overlooking Watergate bay.

Once Cornwall’s inevitable wind and rain had moved on, bands were playing to chilled out surfers and surf-watchers - the day ending with a photo-book ocean sunset that dropped so quickly into the Atlantic that the crowd counted it down. Perfect.
